Kings Send F Boyle To Manchester

The Los Angeles Kings have assigned forward Brian Boyle to the Manchester Monarchs of the American Hockey League (AHL), Kings President/General Manager Dean Lombardi announced today. Boyle, 23, has played in 14 games with the Kings this season, recording one point (1-0=1) and 12 penalty minutes. Last season, the 6-7, 252-pound native of Hingham, Mass., recorded five points (4-1=5) and four penalty minutes in eight games with the Kings. With Manchester last season, he recorded 62 points (31-31=62) and 87 penalty minutes in 70 regular season games. Boyle?s 31 goals last season led Manchester and all AHL rookies, as did his 16 power play goals and his six game-winning goals. He was originally selected by the Kings in the first round (26th overall) in the 2003 NHL Entry Draft.

The Avalanche placed Adam Foote on the injured list Saturday due to injuries to his lower back and knee and recalled Aaron MacKenzie from Lake Erie of the AHL, according to an Associated Press report. Foote was injured in the second period of Colorado?s game against Los Angeles on November 22 and didn?t return. He has already missed three games.

Burke: Sundin Unlikely To Join Leafs

If Mats Sundin decides to resume his playing career, he will likely do it with a team other than the Maple Leafs, as reported by the Associated Press. New Leafs GM Brian Burke said Saturday that he spoke with Sundin recently and came away thinking that he wanted to join a Stanley Cup contender. ?I don?t think we fit the profile he is looking for,? Burke said after officially joining the Leafs organization.

Danis played in one game with the Islanders this season, turning aside 27 of 32 shots in a loss to the Canadiens on November 1. In a corresponding move, the Islanders reassigned fellow goalie Peter Mannino to Bridgeport.

Lightning Re-Assign D Smaby To Norfolk

The Tampa Bay Lightning have reassigned defenseman Matt Smaby to Norfolk of the American Hockey League, it was announced by Executive Vice President & General Manager Brian Lawton. Smaby, a 6-5, 220-pound native of Minneapolis, was recalled on November 27 and served as a healthy scratch November 28 at Minnesota. He has skated in 17 games with Norfolk this season, recording a goal, two assists and 22 penalty minutes. Selected in the second round, 41st overall by the Lightning at the 2003 NHL Entry Draft, Smaby made his NHL debut with the Lightning in 2007-08, skating in 14 games. The 24-year-old has appeared in 141 career AHL games with Norfolk and Springfield, tallying four goals, 21 assists and 131 penalty minutes. Smaby played three seasons for the University of North Dakota (2003-04 through 2005-06), captaining teams that reached the NCAA Frozen Four in consecutive seasons.

Coyotes Re-Assign Murray To San Antonio

Phoenix Coyotes General Manager Don Maloney announced today that the Coyotes have re-assigned center Garth Murray to their American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate, the San Antonio Rampage. Murray, 26, played in eight games for the Coyotes after being recalled from San Antonio on Nov. 3. Prior to that, he appeared in nine games for San Antonio and recorded 4-1-5 and 32 penalty minutes (PIM). His was tied for the team-lead in goals and ranked 4th in points and PIM at the time of his recall. Murray began last season with the Montreal Canadiens and appeared in one game before being claimed off waivers by the Florida Panthers. The 6-foot-2, 210-pound Murray then suffered a season-ending shoulder injury after playing in six games and collecting 19 PIM with the Panthers. In 114 career NHL games with the New York Rangers, Canadiens, Panthers and Coyotes, Murray has recorded 8-2-10 and 131 PIM. He has also appeared in six career NHL playoff games.

The Anaheim Ducks announced today that the National Hockey League (NHL) club has recalled defenseman Brett Festerling from the Iowa Chops, Anaheim?s primary development affiliate in the American Hockey League (AHL). In addition, the Ducks have reassigned goaltender David LeNeveu to Iowa. Festerling, 22 (3/3/86), has appeared in five games with the Ducks this season, going scoreless with an even plus/minus rating and four penalty minutes (PIM). Festerling made his NHL debut on Nov. 16 vs. the Los Angeles Kings, registering 17:42 time on ice (TOI). With Iowa, the 6-1, 214-pound blue-liner has earned 0-6=6 points with a +2 rating and 14 PIM in 15 games. Signed as a free agent on Sept. 14, 2005, Festerling spent his first professional season with Portland (AHL) in 2007-08, collecting 3-11=14 points with 64 PIM in 74 games. In the 2008 Calder Cup Playoffs, he helped the Pirates to an Eastern Conference Finals appearance, scoring 1-3=4 points in 15 games. LeNeveu, 25 (5/23/83), did not appear in a game with Anaheim during his most recent recall. With the Chops, LeNeveu has posted a 6-6-0 record with a 2.85 goals-against average (GAA) and .887 save percentage (SV%) in 12 games this season. Signed by Anaheim as a free agent on July 7, 2008, LeNeveu compiled a 17-10-5 record with a 2.33 GAA and .916 SV% in 34 games with San Antonio and Hartford of the AHL last season. The netminder ranked third among AHL goaltenders with a .921 SV% in 2005-06.

The Tampa Bay Lightning have recalled defenseman Andrew Hutchinson from Norfolk of the American Hockey League, announced by Executive Vice President & General Manager Brian Lawton. Hutchinson, 6-foot-2 and 200 pounds, has appeared in 20 games with Norfolk this season, recording a goal, 13 assists and 14 penalty minutes. The 28-year-old played in 67 games with Hartford of the AHL last season while serving as the team?s captain, tallying 18 goals, 64 points and 13 power-play goals, leading all Wolf Pack defensemen in those categories. He ranked second on the team in assists (46), plus/minus (+28) and power-play goals, third in points, and was tied for fifth in goals. He led all AHL defensemen in points and assists, and also ranked third in goals. Hutchinson was named the winner of the Eddie Shore Award as the AHL?s most outstanding defenseman. A native of Evanston, Illinois, Hutchinson has appeared in 95 career NHL games with Carolina and Nashville. He has accumulated 10 goals, 33 points, and six power-play goals. Selected by Nashville in the second round, 54th overall, at the 1999 NHL Entry Draft, Hutchinson made his NHL debut in 2003 with Nashville and was a member of Carolina?s 2006 Stanley Cup Championship team.
